Shots fired at realtor's house in New Chandigarh
Mohali, April 3 -- Two masked men brazenly opened fire at the house of a property dealer in New Chandigarh's Hoshiarpur village on Thursday night, in what police suspect to be an act of extortion-linked intimidation.
The victim, Sukhdarshan Singh, told police that he had received an extortion call around 10 days ago from gangster Lucky Patial, who allegedly demanded Rs.1 crore. Police believe the firing may have been carried out to threaten Singh after he refused to comply with the demand.
According to officials, the incident took place around 10.35 pm when two motorcycle-borne assailants reached outside Singh's house and fired five rounds, before fleeing the spot. The bullets struck the outer wall and a window of the house. No injuries were reported in the incident.
On receiving information, senior officers of the Mohali police, along with teams from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and the State Forensic Science Laboratory, rushed to the spot and initiated investigation. Forensic experts recovered five empty .32-bore shells from the scene.
Mohali SP Saurav Jindal said, "So far, no one has taken responsibility for the firing. We are working to ascertain whether the extortion call was linked to this incident. Further investigation is on."
A case was registered under Sections 308 (5), 125, 324 and 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25 of the Arms Act. Senior police officials said they were examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in the near to trace the suspects. A senior police official said multiple teams had been deployed to nab the accused and assured that the culprits will be arrested soon....
