Karnal, Aug. 30 -- The station house officer (SHO) of Ambala's Naggal police station was found dead after his service pistol went off, officials said on Saturday. It is yet to be ascertained whether it was a mishap, they said. Sub-inspector Karambir Singh, 53, was in his retiring room when the incident happened. Police personnel at the station took him to the civil hospital in Ambala City, where doctors declared him dead. Officials said the postmortem examination would be carried out on Sunday. Singh's colleagues from various police stations and police lines, as well as his relatives, reached the hospital. DSP (headquarters) Vijay Kumar said, "The exact reason behind the incident is being ascertained." Superintendent of police (SP) Ajit Singh Shekhawat told HT that the SHO was in his retiring room in civvies when the incident involving his service revolver occurred. "We recovered a bullet nearby that had passed through his body near the chest. We are ascertaining if it was an accidental firing," he added. Singh is survived by his wife, who lives in his village in Kurukshetra, and a son and a daughter, both of whom are settled abroad....
