AMRITSAR, July 31 -- Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Thursday offered the Sikh body's support to the Assam government for relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit state. In a letter to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Dhami expressed grief over the loss of life and property caused by the recent floods and said the large-scale displacement of people was deeply distressing. He said the SGPC, as the apex representative body of the Sikhs, stood in solidarity with the affected people, and guided by the Sikh principles of Sarbat da Bhala (welfare of all) and selfless service (Nishkam Seva) was ready to assist the state government and flood victims during this difficult time. Dhami said SGPC would, in coordination with the state administration, deploy teams of volunteers for relief operations. He added that the SGPC is fully prepared to provide food, drinking water, clothing, blankets, and other essential relief supplies, organise community kitchens (langar) in the affected areas, extend financial assistance, and offer any other assistance needed.HTC...
