Search for Faridabad trekker halted due to heavy rain
Mussoorie, June 13 -- A joint search operation involving the forest department, police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for a 48-year-old tourist from Haryana who went missing during a trek in the Valley of Flowers area of Chamoli district was suspended on Friday due to heavy rainfall, officials said.
The missing tourist was identified as Gabbar Singh, a resident of Faridabad, Haryana. Search operations were launched after he failed to return from his trek on Tuesday evening.
Chetna Kandpal, forest range officer, Nanda Devi National Park, said, "After an extensive search for the missing tourist who entered the Valley of Flowers earlier this week, there is still no trace of him. Joint teams have searched the entire park area, which suggests that he is not inside and might have exited through a different route".
She said the search operation was called off temporarily due to adverse weather conditions and would resume once the weather improves. Teams of SDRF, police and forest department remain deployed in the area, she added.
In a separate incident, the SDRF on Thursday evening rescued a 15-member trekking group that became stranded near the Saraswati River in Chamoli district amid severe weather conditions.
According to SDRF officials, the group had set out from Ghamsali for Badrinath on June 4. While passing through the high-altitude region near Musa Pani above Muchukund Cave, the trekkers lost their way due to dense fog, darkness and heavy rain. Officials said SDRF personnel reached them after an hour-and-a-half-long effort through continuous rainfall, thick fog and difficult mountain terrain. The joint SDRF-ITBP team then escorted the trekkers safely to Mana village....
