sacrilege cases: Sukhbir dares Mann to initiate legal action
Bathinda, April 8 -- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday challenged Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann to initiate legal action against him in sacrilege cases.
Addressing a rally in Mansa's Budhlada, Sukhbir charged the AAP leadership with defaming the Badal family by making frivolous allegations about the sacrilege of holy scriptures.
"AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann have been levelling charges of sacrilege against us for nearly a decade. AAP is in power in Punjab and I challenge him to take legal action against me on the charge," said Sukhbir.
He claimed that various political parties had been working to weaken the SAD and control the religious institutions of Sikhs.
"SAD is a traditional guardian of Punjab and Punjabis. Baseless charges were levelled against the SAD leadership to make it politically irrelevant. Time has come to give a befitting electoral reply to the opponents," said Sukhbir.
Senior Moga leader Barjinder Singh Makhan Brar rejoined the SAD on Tuesday. The induction took place at party president Sukhbir Singh Badal's residence in Badal village, Muktsar district.
Brar, the son of late Akali minister Tota Singh, had defected from the SAD last March to join a rebel faction opposing Sukhbir's leadership. However, he resigned from the breakaway group, the SAD (Punar Surjit), on April 4.
Upon his return, Brar described the move as a homecoming, saying he felt elated to be back. His return follows a sharp public exit from the rebel camp, during which he levelled serious allegations against former Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh and SAD legislator Manpreet Ayali.
Brar claimed that the rebel leaders were misleading the Panth in collaboration with central agencies and Punjab's AAP government to weaken the SAD. Despite losing the Moga assembly seat on a SAD ticket in both 2017 and 2022, Brar remains a prominent political figure in the region....
