Mohali, July 18 -- Baltana police have booked unidentified persons for breaking into a locked house in Zirakpur while the owner was away and stealing Rs.10,000 in cash. The complainant, Hena Chopra, a resident of Harmilap Nagar Phase 1, told police that she had left for Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on July 6 to visit relatives. Chopra alleged that she received a phone call from a local shopkeeper, Avinash Mishra, at around 3:38am on Wednesday informing her that a burglary had taken place at her house. She returned the same day and found the locks on the main door broken and the house ransacked. After checking the house, she found that Rs.10,000 in cash was missing. During the inquiry, police learnt that the accused had allegedly used a scooter bearing number CH-01BN-9945 while committing the theft. Based on her complaint, the Baltana police registered an FIR against an unidentified accused under Sections 305 (house-breaking) and 331(4) (house theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
