Chandigarh, Aug. 12 -- Taking suo motu cognisance of a HT report on the alleged abduction and gangrape of a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Zirakpur, the Punjab State and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP). The commission, comprising chairperson Justice Sant Parkash, member Justice Gurbir Singh and member Jitender Singh Shunty, has also ordered the investigating officer (IO) in the case to appear before the commission in person during the next hearing on September 9. On August 6, three unidentified men in a white car had intercepted the teenager on way to her school, got her unconscious, taken her to an undisclosed location and gangraped her. In the afternoon, they had dropped her near a mall and fled. The teenager had returned home the same day but not disclosed the incident to anyone, fearing for her life as the men had threatened her. The next day, when she was walking to school, the same men again abducted and gangraped her. She was later found unconscious near a gift shop in Baltana by passersby. A shopkeeper had helped her ring her parents who reached the spot and took her to the police station....
