Residents point to no traffic signal where Mercedes killed biker
Mohali, May 23 -- A day after a 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run involving a Mercedes in Sunny Enclave, eyewitnesses alleged that overspeeding and lack of traffic-calming infrastructure on the stretch contributed to the fatal accident. Deceased Arjun, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, resided in Palsora and worked at a sewing unit in Sunny Enclave.
Kamal, a shopkeeper near the accident site, said Arjun was on his side of the road when the car approached while continuously honking from a distance as the driver couldn't control the vehicle due to its high speed.
Another eyewitness said the impact was so severe that Arjun was flung nearly 10 to 15 feet into the air before landing around 25 metres away from the point of collision. "It was clearly a case of reckless driving and overspeeding," he said.
Residents pointed out that despite multiple crossings within a 500-metre radius, the road lacks speed breakers, warning signboards, traffic lights and CCTV surveillance.
ASI Kulwinder Singh, investigating officer, said the car was impounded. "We are examining CCTV footage from the area. The accused will be arrested soon," he said....
