Rakhra hints at joining AAP
Patiala, May 14 -- Former Punjab minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) leader Surjit Singh Rakhra on Wednesday said he is in talks with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and is likely to join the ruling party in the coming days.
Confirming ongoing discussions with the AAP leadership, Rakhra also praised the Punjab government for enacting the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.
"I believe the AAP government has taken a major step by bringing the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026," Rakhra said.
A prominent Akali face from Patiala, Rakhra had served as revenue and rehabilitation minister in the SAD-BJP government led by former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. Later due to differences within the party, particularly with Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Rakhra distanced himself from the party and later joined the rebel faction....
