Chandigarh, Aug. 20 -- The Qaumi Insaaf Morcha and its allied organisations have called for a Punjab-wide bandh on August 21 from 7am to 2pm, urging people and various groups to support the shutdown. The call follows the August 15 confrontation between Morcha supporters and police at the Chandigarh-Mohali border. The protesters were attempting to march towards the Punjab governor's residence when they were stopped at the barricades. Morcha leaders said the bandh is aimed at highlighting their demand for the release of Sikh prisoners and protesting the police action and cases registered against supporters. The bandh has received backing from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which has also rescheduled its executive meeting.
