Punjab targets 90% voter pre-mapping before SIR: CEO
Chandigarh, May 26 -- Chief electoral officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra on Monday said Punjab was targeting 90% pre-mapping of voters before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) begins.
The SIR is set to commence in the state on June 15 ahead of next year's assembly elections.
Mitra said more than 84% of voters had been successfully mapped. The 2003 SIR conducted in Punjab is being used as a basis for matching voters with the current electoral rolls.
During SIR, booth level officers (BLOs) will visit each registered voter's house with the enumeration form.
Mitra said that even if a voter was not pre-mapped, they will still fill out the enumeration form given by the BLOs and submit it. Following this, their names will be added to thedraft roll. The CEO appealed to Punjab's voters to participate in the SIR in large numbersand offer maximum cooperation to BLOs....
