Punjab arhtiyas seek Saini's intervention amid ongoing strike
Chandigarh, April 3 -- A delegation of the Punjab Arhtiya Federation, representing 40,000 commission agents and nearly 8 lakh workers, met Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Thursday to discuss the ongoing procurement deadlock in Punjab.
The delegation informed the Haryana CM that their state-wide strike, triggered by unresolved grievances with the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, has affected business activities and the livelihoods of lakhs of families during the current rabi season. Saini criticised the Punjab government for failing to take effective steps to resolve the crisis, claiming its policies have pushed the state toward financial distress. Contrasting the situation with Haryana, Saini said that his government procures 24 crops at minimum support price (MSP) and has consistently increased commissions to protect the dignity of middlemen. He highlighted that Haryana pays arhtiyas Rs.55 per quintal on wheat, which is Rs.9 more than the rate offered in Punjab. Saini claimed that only a BJP-led administration could safeguard the welfare of the region's agrarian economy.
