Sangrur, Aug. 24 -- Police deployed water cannons at protesting Punjab government employees as they attempted to enter chief minister Bhagwant Mann's village Satauj in Sangrur on Sunday. Demanding restoration of the old pension scheme, the protesters first held a rally at Tolawal village and then proceeded to Satauj, where water cannons were used as they broke the two-layer barricades. Happy Devi Dyal, one of the protesters, alleged that around 10 people suffered injuries amid the melee. Dirba deputy superintendent of police Rupinder Kaur Bajwa said police were forced to use water cannons as over 5,000 protesters broke multiple layers of barricades and tried to enter the village through various routes. She said a meeting between the protesters and the chief minister had been scheduled on August 27. The protesters have also been demanding release of pending dearness allowance, full salary for employees during the probation period, reduction of the probation period from three years to one year, and cancellation of the central pay scale....
