Presidential Retreat at Mashobra closed for public till May 2
Shimla, April 22 -- The historic Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra has officially suspended all public access and guided tours with immediate effect. The gates will remain closed to the public until May 2, 2026.
This temporary closure is mandated by the arrival of President Droupadi Murmu, who is scheduled to occupy The Retreat-the President's official summer residence-from April 27 through the first week of May.
Travellers and locals planning to visit the architectural landmark are advised to defer their trips until the morning of May 3, when the estate will resume its standard visiting hours.
The move is a standard but critical security measure, as the 176-year-old wooden structure must be transitioned from a public heritage site back into a high-security presidential workplace.
For the public and the local tourism industry, this means a total freeze on the guided tours of the grounds and orchards to allow the Presidential Guard and local police to establish a secure perimeter.
