POWER FIRM ASKS consumers to update sanctioned load
Chandigarh, July 9 -- The Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has urged electricity consumers in the city to review and update their sanctioned load in accordance with their actual power usage, warning that a mismatch could lead to penalties and safety risks.
The advisory comes amid growing electricity consumption in households and commercial establishments, driven by the increased use of high-power appliances such as air conditioners, geysers and electric vehicle chargers. CPDL officials said that in several cases, consumers have not enhanced their sanctioned load or contract demand despite a significant rise in actual usage.
According to CPDL's internal analysis, many connections are currently drawing more load than what has been officially sanctioned. As per the tariff order issued by the joint electricity regulatory commission on October 30, 2025, consumption beyond the sanctioned load attracts load violation charges. A CPDL spokesperson said, "As Chandigarh's power requirements continue to grow, consumers must ensure that their sanctioned load accurately reflects their actual electricity usage to avoid penalties and ensure safe supply."...
