Patiala, April 3 -- The Patiala police busted an inter-state illegal arms supply module with the arrest of four men and the recovery of 10 sophisticated self-loading firearms, Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday. The arrested individuals are Saurabh Kumar of Muzaffarpur, Bihar; Sajan of Sohana in Mohali; and Abhishek and Inderjit Singh, both residents of Patiala. DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed the module sourced country-made weapons from Bihar to facilitate criminal activities in Punjab. "The probe indicates a gang rivalry, the accused planned to target a rival criminal linked to the Goldy Dhillon network to establish dominance in the area," the DGP said, adding that efforts are underway to dismantle the entire network through backward and forward linkages. Sharing operational details, Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said police teams acted on intelligence that Saurabh Kumar was supplying pistols to notorious criminals on instructions from foreign-based handlers to execute targeted killings. A specialised team, comprising the CIA Patiala unit and SHO Shambu, supervised by SP (Investigation) Gurbans Singh Bains and DSP Harman Cheema, laid a trap to catch the four suspects. Investigation revealed that Saurabh procured weapons from illegal manufacturing units in Muzaffarpur and transported them to Punjab using various modes of transit. "During interrogation, it was found that Abhishek was in direct contact with gangster Goldy Dhillon via social media," the SSP added. A case has been registered under Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Shambu police station....
