pick-up Driver runs over youth in Ramdarbar after argument
India, March 6 -- The city police arrested two men within 24 hours for allegedly running over a 26-year-old youth following a dispute after a minor collision in Ramdarbar.
The accused were identified as Sunil Kumar, 30, a resident of the Bhabat godown area in Zirakpur, and Phool Singh, 32, a resident of Phase-2, Ramdarbar.
According to police, the case was registered on the complaint of Priyanshu, a resident of Phase-1, Ramdarbar. He told police that on March 4 around 3.35 pm, he and his cousin Suraj were heading to the market when a Mahindra pickup truck coming from the gurdwara side slightly hit Suraj near a school crossing in Phase-1.
An argument broke out between them and the occupants of the vehicle. During the altercation, the driver and co-driver allegedly tried to flee. Priyanshu alleged that the co-driver told the driver to drive away "even if both of them die", following which the driver sped away, hitting Suraj and leaving him critically injured.
Suraj was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Priyanshu also sustained injuries and was admitted to the same hospital. Hours later, police arrested the driver and his accomplice. The pickup used in the incident was also recovered. Police said the accused will be produced before the court.
