PGIMER supplies pilfered: Week on, theft case registered
Chandigarh, Aug. 19 -- A week after HT reported the alleged siphoning off of immunoglobulin injections from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research's (PGIMER) obstetrics and gynaecology ward, police have registered a case of theft.
According to information, a hospital attendant was found generating fake demands for the injections via an online indenting system to the hospital pharmacies but not supplying the same to the patients.
These injections cost anywhere between Rs.950 and Rs.98,000 depending on the type and dosage, and were being provided to pregnant women and sick newborns free-of-cost at the hospital under the central government scheme Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram.
In its official statement, PGIMER previously said, "The incident came to light when indents were repeatedly raised by a ward, at intervals of 2-3 days, for the same costly drug."
