PGI nurses allege overcharging by vendor
Chandigarh, June 28 -- The PGI Nurses Welfare Association has written to the director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) alleging that the canteen contractor at the fifth floor Nehru Building canteen is systematically overcharging nursing and non-doctor staff compared to approved institutional rates, and that the contractor has openly admitted to the practice.
PGIMER deputy director Pankaj Rai said the administration would look into the matter and take appropriate action.
According to the association, canteen staff have been charging non-doctor staff higher rates than those on the approved institutional rate list. When confronted, the contractor admitted to the differential pricing, stating it was communicated verbally during the tendering process, while also acknowledging that no written administrative order or dynamic pricing approval from PGIMER justifies the practice.
Association members said they have been receiving complaints of the same nature from multiple departments across the hospital, suggesting the overcharging is not isolated.
The association called this a gross violation of tender protocols and demanded immediate suspension of vendor operations, a full audit of the canteen, cancellation of the tender if violations are confirmed, and mandatory display of the approved price list at the billing counter....
