Pedestrian run over by car on highway in Dhakoli
Mohali, Aug. 25 -- A 45-year-old pedestrian died after a car hit her while she was crossing the Zirakpur-Panchkula National Highway near Mamta Enclave in Dhakoli around midnight on Saturday, police said.
According to the complaint filed by the woman's husband, she ran Pind Punjabi Dhaba and Pakeeza Hotel in Mamta Enclave. She managed operations at the dhaba before heading to the hotel every night.
On Saturday, after closing the eatery, she was walking towards the highway to meet her husband, who was waiting on the roadside to pick her up. As she crossed about four to five feet of the road, a silver Alto, bearing registration number PB01E9716, coming from the Zirakpur side allegedly hit her.
The impact threw her onto the car's bonnet before she fell onto the road, leaving her with grievous injuries to her face and body. The driver stopped after the crash. Her husband and passers-by identified him as Gurpyar Singh, a resident of Budhlada in Mansa district. With the help of the driver and bystanders, the husband rushed her to Government Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where doctors declared her brought dead.
