Mohali, March 4 -- A 46-year-old man was killed and several others injured after a speeding BMW rammed into an auto-rickshaw near Stadium Road in Phase 9 around 2 am on Tuesday. The driver of the luxury car fled the spot soon after the mishap. The deceased was identified as Dheeraj, a resident of Nayagaon, who was travelling as a passenger in the auto-rickshaw. He suffered critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. According to preliminary investigation, the auto driver was attempting to manoeuvre around an uneven stretch of road when the BMW, allegedly being driven at high speed, struck the vehicle from the side. Eyewitnesses said the BMW driver did not stop to help the injured and escaped immediately after the crash.
