Panchkula, July 2 -- The police have removed illegal encroachments at around 70 locations and seized narcotics worth nearly Rs.6.30 crore during two campaigns aimed at curbing crime and drug trafficking in the district. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, commissioner of police Pankaj Nain said that, as part of a 15-day anti-crime and anti-encroachment drive, police teams conducted verification of migrants and suspicious persons living illegally along roadsides. The operation covered Sectors 1, 5, 7, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20 and 21, besides Chandimandir, Pinjore, Kalka and Raipur Rani. During the drive, around 70 locations were identified where migrants were staying without valid identity or supporting documents. With the assistance of the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), illegal structures erected on government land were demolished using bulldozers.
