Pak drone carrying arms, ammo seized in Fazilka
Ferozepur, Aug. 14 -- Amid heightened security ahead of Independence Day, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Fazilka Police on Thursday recovered a Pakistani drone carrying a pistol and ammunition from a paddy field in Fazilka's Mumbe village, located along the India-Pakistan border.
According to an official spokesperson, the recovery followed information about a drone crossing the international fence and entering nearly 100 metres into Indian territory.
Acting on the input, BSF and Punjab Police personnel launched a joint operation and cordoned off the area, before locating the drone in the paddy fields. A packet attached to it contained a pistol and cartridges, which were subsequently taken into custody.
In view of Independence Day, BSF and Punjab Police have intensified surveillance, patrolling and checking in sensitive areas to prevent infiltration and cross-border smuggling.
A case has been registered against unidentified persons. Investigators are examining the drone and its payload to establish its origin and identify the intended recipient of the consignment....
