Karnal, Oct. 4 -- The station house officer (SHO) of Naggal in Ambala sustained severe injuries after he was attacked by a group of men while intervening in a scuffle between two groups in Matherei village on the Ambala-Hisar highway, police said on Saturday. The incident occurred late Friday night when inspector Suresh Kumar was on patrol duty. As the officer tried to save a youth, the other group attacked him with knives and bricks before fleeing. Senior police officials and former minister Aseem Goel visited the civil hospital to inquire about the SHO's condition. Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Vijay Kumar said Kumar risked his life to save a young man, when he received injuries to his neck, arm, thumb and head and was initially taken to the hospital in Ambala City. He was later referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Chandigarh and discharged on Saturday morning, superintendent of police (SP) Ajit Singh Shekhawat said, adding that he is now stable.
