P'kula man duped of Rs.15 lakh; one booked
Panchkula, July 9 -- The Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) police station has booked a Gujarat-based immigration consultancy for allegedly cheating a Panchkula resident of Rs.15.53 lakh on the pretext of securing his son's admission to a university in France.
The FIR has been registered under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of Ashish Chander Sharma,55, a resident of Himshikha Colony, Pinjore, against Vishal Brahmbhatt, a representative of Lyons Institute for Geostrategic and Multicultural Relations (LIGMR), whose registered office is in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

He also claimed to have spent another Rs.5.08 lakh on visa processing, campus fees, certificate attestation, french language classes, travel, medical expenses and other related costs, taking his total loss to Rs.15.53 lakh.
According to the complaint, MBway University later confirmed that it had never received the tuition fee, resulting in his son's french study visa being rejected. Even after 19 months and despite repeated emails, phone calls and assurances from the consultancy that the amount would be refunded due to 'technical issues', no refund was made. Alleging fraud and misrepresentation, Sharma approached the police, following which an FIR was registered....
