Chandigarh, May 15 -- Punjab Police inspected over 74,000 two-wheelers and issued 20,982 challans during a 10-day special drive across the state, officials said on Thursday. Special director general of police (law and order) Praveen Sinha said the campaign focused on motorcycles and scooters running without number plates or with distorted registration plates. "The aim was to curb the use of unidentified vehicles in criminal activities," Sinha said. According to police, 74,776 two-wheelers were checked, and of these, 20,982 violators were issued challans, while 461 were impounded for offences such as missing or distorted number plates, lack of valid documents.
