One dead, 12 injuredin bus-pickup crash
Hoshiarpur, March 20 -- A man was killed and 12 others were injured on Thursday in a head-on collision between a Punjab Roadways bus and a pickup vehicle on the Hoshiarpur-Chandigarh road near Tuto Majara, police said.
The deceased was identified as Karam Chand, a resident of Chak Phullu village, they added.
The commercial vehicle was carrying 13 passengers, all belonging to the same family, who were returning to their native village after attending a 'bhog' at Chabbewal when the vehicle collided with the bus coming from the opposite direction, police added.
The injured were rushed to the Mahilpur community health centre. The police have registered a case against the bus driver.
A 70-year-old man was killed on the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway near Khurani village of Sangrur after a private bus hit the cycle he was riding. The bus was on its way to Barnala from Patiaia when the accident took place, police said.
Former sarpanch of Khurani village Darshan Singh identified the victim who was working as a security guard at a petrol pump. Police said the body has been sent for postmortem and they are in the process of registering a first information report....
