Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- After the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) formed an alliance for all four seats of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) panel, the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, announced its alliance for the panel on Wednesday. While NSUI fielded candidates for two seats, with Gurman Singh Sidhu contesting for president and Aakanksha Thakur for vice-president, it has now aligned with Dhyan Singh for general secretary. Dhyan is an independent candidate who is said to be backed by Hariom Deswal, a former NSUI leader. For joint secretary, they have allied with Devraj Singh Nain of the Hindustan Student Association (HSA). The alliance has been stitched together as a regional alliance, with Gurman as a Punjabi face, while its alliance partners will also bring in votes from Haryana students. ASAP, which is the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, has also adopted a similar approach. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the four presidential candidates continued to campaign with just five days left for the PUCSC polls, scheduled for August 31. Darshpreet Singh of Sath organised a rally at the Students' Centre on Wednesday. His campaign is against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideology, with his campaign poster also reading, "Sath will fight the Sangh this year and become the president", alongside a picture of deceased Punjabi human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
