No traffic snarls during VVIP movement in city
Chandigarh, July 18 -- Meticulous planning, which included the Prime Minister's cavalcade avoiding the internal roads of the city, spared residents the agony of traffic snarls during VVIP movement, which was a first such instance in recent memory.
While most VVIPs tend to move from the Airport Road in Mohali to Chandigarh, causing bottlenecks on the way, the PM's helicopter landed at the Rajendra Park in Sector 1, barely five minutes away from the event venue i.e Punjab Engineering College. Avoiding the internal roads, the PM's cavalcade took the route from the Punjab chief minister's residence in Sector 2 - this stretch is out of bounds for the general public - and reached PEC within minutes.
For attendees, special Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses were operationalised to take them to the venue. This cut down the number of vehicles at the venue while helping avoid parking chaos. The smooth traffic movement was in stark contrast to most events in tricity, including protests, concerts, and even VVIP movement etc, which usually lead to maddening traffic chaos. Around 3,000 UT police personnel were on duty to manage the traffic....
