Barnala, Aug. 24 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has constituted a joint committee to probe allegations of environmental violations by an industrial unit in Barnala district. The action came on a complaint by environmentalist Kuldeep Singh, who alleged that Garson Industries, located on Fatehgarh Chhanna Road, Dhaula village, illegally created an access road by cutting seven fully grown green trees without permission from the competent authority. The plea further alleged that the industry was openly burning industrial waste residue, resulting in air pollution; illegally extracting groundwater and discharging untreated water outside the premises. The industry also failed to develop a green belt or carry out plantation as prescribed by PPCB. The petitioner alleged that repeated appeals to pollution and state authorities had yielded no action, prompting him to approach the NGT. Acting on the plea, the NGT appointed a joint committee comprising representatives of Central Pollution Control Board member secretary; regional office of the ministry of environment, forest and climate change in Chandigarh; Barnala divisional forest officer and the Barnala deputy commissioner.
