Mohali, July 1 -- Three children - aged 10, 7, and 4 - died after their mother allegedly threw them into the Sirhind canal in Ropar on Tuesday before jumping into the water herself. While the children drowned immediately, the woman managed to swim to the bank and was arrested. According to the police, the woman travelled from Mohali to Ropar with her children to take the extreme step. The children's grandfather told police that his son had died of suicide about 10 months ago, and ever since, the family was facing financial hardships. His daughter-in-law had been distressed due to this. While the bodies of two of the children have been recovered, search is on for the third.
