Modi lauds Indian cheesemakers' big Brazil win
New Delhi, April 23 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Indian cheesemakers on their notable achievement at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026 (Brasilian Cheese world cup), a major biennial cheese-focused event and competition held in the South American country.
Four Indian products won medals, including 1 super gold, two golds and one silver at the event. "The Super Gold was won by Eleftheria Gulmarg (Brie Style), the Golds were won by Yak Churpi-Soft, Nordic Farm, Leh, Ladakh and Eleftheria Brunost (Whey Cheese) while the Silver was won by Eleftheria Kaali Miri (Belper Knolle Style)", Modi wrote in an X post.
The Prime Minister commended the efforts of the awardees, including Mausam Narang and Thenlay Nurboo, and stated that such achievements reflect the growing global recognition of India's artisanal dairy sector.
"India made an impressive debut at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026, which is a vibrant international competition for cheese and dairy products...Such successes strengthen India's artisanal dairy sector on the world stage." Modi said.
Narang, who is based out of Mumbai, previously worked in corporate roles before shifting to artisanal cheese-making. She has helped popularise European-style cheeses in India through small-batch production and collaboration with local dairy farmers. Nurboo is an artisan-farmer from Leh, Ladakh, who runs Nordic Farm and produces yak-milk cheeses and Churpi....
