Mohali, Oct. 7 -- A 12-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her tuition teacher's 24-year-old brother in Dera Bassi, police said on Tuesday. The accused is yet to be arrested. The girl, a student of Class 7, had allegedly gone for her classes on September 26, not knowing that her teacher was not home. As she was waiting for her teacher, the accused allegedly bolted the door, preventing her from leaving, and then proceeded to sexually assault her. He later allegedly started blackmailing her for money by stating that he would disclose the incident to her parents and bring her "disrepute". Her parents learnt of the incident after noticing changes in her behaviour - she had started skipping meals and appeared visibly disturbed - and enquired. It was then that she revealed the accused had sexually assaulted her and forced her to transfer Rs.1,000 through a digital payment app. Following this, the parents approached the police and a case under Sections 65(1) (rape), 308(1) (extortion), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered.
