Mining SDO arrested for accepting Rs.8-lakh bribe
Mohali, July 29 -- The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested Ramanjot Singh, sub-divisional officer (SDO) posted with the mining department in Dera Bassi, Mohali, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.8 lakh.
According to the VB, the action followed a complaint received through the chief minister's anti-corruption action line portal. The bureau alleged that the SDO had initially demanded Rs.40 lakh from the complainant and later agreed to accept Rs.19.4 lakh. He allegedly accepted Rs.8 lakh to avoid taking action against the complainant for lifting soil from his land.
The bureau said audio recordings submitted by the complainant supported the allegations.
An FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB police station in Mohali. Further investigation is underway....
