Chandigarh, April 19 -- Mayor Saurabh Joshi has proposed a monthly Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for every woman above 18 years of age in the city. In a formal communication addressed to the Punjab governor and UT administrator, Gulab Chand Kataria, the mayor urged the Chandigarh administration to introduce a comprehensive welfare scheme that ensures direct monthly financial assistance to women through a transparent Aadhaar-linked DBT mechanism. Highlighting the need for economic empowerment alongside political representation, Joshi emphasised that women are the backbone of society and must be financially secure.
