Man loses Rs.4L in cyber fraud, another falls prey to immigration scam in city
Chandigarh, Aug. 29 -- The UT Police have registered two separate cases of fraud under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after two men were cheated of a combined amount of Rs.7 lakh in online billing and immigration scams.
In the first incident, the Cyber Crime police station in Sector 17 booked an unidentified scammer for defrauding a local resident of Rs.4 lakh. According to the police, complainant Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Sector 44, was duped after being tricked into downloading a fake LPG APK file to make a utility bill payment. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered under Sections related to cheating, forgery, using forged document as genuine of the BNS.
In the second case, the Sector 26 police station registered an FIR against a local consultancy firm for an immigration scam worth Rs.3 lakh. Complainant Mohammed Raza Ansari, a resident of Deep Vihar Colony in Ludhiana, alleged that Harsh Beniwal, Sukhjeet Singh, and their associates at Rayat Solutions Consultancy in Sector 26 cheated him under the pretext of sending him abroad.
