Mohali, Sept. 5 -- A speeding car claimed the life of a pedestrian near the Kharar bus stand, police said on Friday. The driver fled after the crash while leaving behind the vehicle's registration plate. Vinod Kumar, a labourer living in Naina Floor, GTB Nagar, Kharar, witnessed the incident while he was heading out for dinner around 1 am on Wednesday. Kumar told police that he and his fellow villager Bhagwan Deen were waiting to cross the road when a car came from Kurali side. Kumar said the car hit Deen as he stepped onto the road, neither blowing the horn nor stopping to check on the victim. The impact dislodged the car's registration plate, bearing number HR-85-K-4735, which Kumar handed over to the police. Kumar rushed Deen to the Kharar civil hospital, where doctors provided first aid and referred him to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, for further treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Thursday.
