Man held for assaulting wife, giving triple talaq
Dehradun, Sept. 14 -- Patel Nagar police have arrested a man accused of assaulting and harassing his wife and pronouncing 'triple talaq' to her, police said on Sunday.
The action followed a written complaint submitted by the woman at Patel Nagar police station on Saturday. Based on her complaint, police registered a case against the accused under Sections 115(2) and 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act.
According to SSP Dehradun Pramendra Dobhal, the complaint alleged that the woman's husband had assaulted and harassed her and subsequently pronounced 'triple talaq'.
Taking note of the seriousness of the allegations, he directed Patel Nagar police to take effective action against the named accused.
He said police gathered evidence in the case and arrested the accused after examining the material available during the investigation.
Further legal proceedings against him are underway, police said.
The arrested accused has been identified as Farman, son of Jabbar, a resident of Islampur Sahni under Kiratpur police station in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh....
