Panchkula, May 8 -- A Panchkula fast-track court has sentenced a 57-year-old man from Odisha to five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in 2022. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 on the convict under Section 10 (aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court further awarded him six months' imprisonment each under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code, along with a fine of Rs.500 under each section. According to the prosecution, the girl was playing outside with other children when the convict took her to his room and molested her.
