SANGRUR, Sept. 21 -- A Sangrur resident allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at the local administrative complex on Sunday, claiming he was threatened by the village sarpanch for sharing online videos targeting the drug menace. He claimed that he approached the police, but to no avail. A villager claimed that the sarpanch's associates assaulted the victim for sharing anti-drug videos on social media. Dr Vinod Kumar, senior medical officer, Sangrur Civil Hospital, said the victim was given first aid and subsequently referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala. A police official said the victim is stable and receiving treatment at a Sangrur hospital. Sangrur senior superintendent of police Ravjot Kaur Grewal said that an FIR has been registered against the sarpanch, adding that further action would be taken after the victim is discharged from the hospital.
