Man alleges Rs.7L land deal fraud, 3 booked
Mohali, May 10 -- A Chandigarh resident alleged that he was duped of more than Rs.7 lakh after a property deal in Mohali collapsed on the day of registration, prompting Balongi police to book three persons for cheating and criminal conspiracy.
According to the complaint filed by Amit Kumar of Chandigarh, property dealer Ravi and his sister Meghna introduced him to a house in Shiv City, Behlolpur, owned by Kuldeep Kumar. The property deal was finalised for Rs.21.30 lakh.
The complainant told police that he paid Rs.3 lakh in cash as earnest money on January 15, 2025, and later transferred another Rs.1.20 lakh online to the seller.
He alleged that Ravi and Meghna also took Rs.1.33 lakh from him on the pretext of arranging a home loan and preparing documents, but failed to secure the loan.
The complainant said he later managed a Rs.15.08 lakh loan on his own. Ahead of the property registration, Ravi allegedly demanded additional money for registry-related expenses, forcing Amit to sell jewellery belonging to him and his wife to arrange Rs.80,000 in cash.
On March 31, when the parties reached the Sub-Registrar's office in Mohali for the registry, Ravi and Meghna allegedly took another Rs.60,000 for stamp papers and disappeared. Police said Kuldeep Kumar later issued a cheque of Rs.4 lakh to Amit, but it bounced.
Balongi police registered a case under Sections 316(2), 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita....
