Man, minor daughter die in suicide pact
Patiala, July 10 -- A 40-year-old man and his 11-year-old daughter died, while his wife and teenaged son are battling for life after the four allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at their residence in Officers' Colony on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old woman and the couple's 14-year-old son are undergoing treatment at Government Rajindra Hospital, where their condition is being monitored.
According to DSP Sanjiv Singla, the police received information from Rajindra Hospital that four members of a family had been admitted after allegedly consuming poison. A police team reached the hospital and initiated an investigation after taking statements of the family members before a duty magistrate, the DSP said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that prolonged financial distress may have driven the family to take the extreme step, police said. Previously a bank officer, the 40-year-old man had reportedly been unemployed for some time and was facing severe financial difficulties. Forensic teams have already collected evidence from the house, while investigators are questioning the relatives and other witnesses to ascertain the circumstances that led to the tragedy....
