Key conspirator Wadhwa sent to judicial custody
Chandigarh, March 27 -- Vikram Wadhwa, the key conspirator in a Rs.590-crore fraud involving Haryana government departments and the Rs.190-crore financial irregularities linked to the Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) and Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST), has been sent to judicial custody on Wednesday, police said.
While presenting 52-year-old Wadhwa in court, police apprised the court that Wadhwa had destroyed his phone and sim card which allegedly contained evidence regarding the case. Due to this, Section 238 of the BNS has been added to the case registered against him.
While Wadhwa's counsel remained unavailable for comment, as per police officials they had probed Wadhwa's role in the scam.
His role along with bank manager Ribhav Rishi, official Abhay Kumar and relationship manager Seema Dhiman was also probed. Police had then asked for his judicial custody. The other three accused are already in police remand till March 30.
Wadhwa was arrested by the Chandigarh Police crime branch on March 14 from a hideout in Kharar, Mohali. Wadhwa had earlier filed three applications terming his arrest illegal but all were dismissed by the court....
