Chandigarh, Sept. 14 -- Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has set September 30 as the deadline for Chandigarh Police and the administration to eliminate the illicit drug trade. Addressing the first-anniversary event of the Senior Journalists Forum at the Law Auditorium in Sector 37, Kataria warned that station house officers and field staff would face action if illicit drug sales continued after the deadline. He said the administration would deploy teams and independent informers to identify drug networks and check any nexus between criminals and officials. Kataria called for the rehabilitation of affected youth through sports, skill development and employment opportunities. He described journalism as vital to a prosperous society and urged media professionals to remain unbiased, positive and fearless in highlighting administrative and political lapses.
