Husband, in-laws booked for assault, dowry harassment
Mohali, Aug. 29 -- The Balongi police have booked husband and in-laws of a 26-year-old woman after she alleged that her in-laws assaulted and demanded dowry from her.
Police identified the three accused as Amritpal Singh, his mother Darshan Kaur and father Surinder Singh, all residents of Jittu Colony, Raipur village. The complainant, a resident of Harman Nagar, Patran, married Amritpal on January 18, 2025.
According to her complaint, the accused started demanding money within a month of marriage. She alleged that when her in-laws bought a house in Raipur, they demanded Rs.10 lakh from her family to complete the property deal. Her brother, paid the amount after her parents took a loan.
According to the complaint, the husband and in-laws assaulted her again on August 14, 2026 after she said she wanted to visit her parents for Raksha Bandhan.
She alleged that husband and mother-in-law allegedly followed her with wooden sticks, caught her near Badmajra village and brought her back in an auto-rickshaw. She said she lost consciousness during the assault. Balongi police have registered a case under Sections 115(2), 126(2) , 351(2) and 3(5) of the BNS....
