Chandigarh, March 18 -- A 44-year-old driver of the Haryana government died after allegedly sustaining a gunshot injury at his residence in Sector 23 late Tuesday night, police said. The victim was attached to the ministerial staff of the state government. He was rushed to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16 following the incident where doctors declared him brought dead, officials said. The body has been kept in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination. According to officials, the autopsy would be carried out on Wednesday. Police said the statement of the deceased's wife is yet to be recorded, which is "crucial to ascertain the exact sequence of events" leading to the incident. Investigators are probing multiple angles, including the possibility of an accidental discharge while the licensed pistol was being cleaned. "No possibility is being ruled out," police said. Police confirmed that the firearm used in the incident was registered in his name.
