Honeytrap ends in Rs.2 lakh extortion, car theft in Zirakpur
Mohali, July 1 -- A 62-year-old Chandigarh resident lost Rs.2 lakh, his car, an iPhone 15 and other valuables after a group allegedly lured him through a honeytrap to a house in Zirakpur, threatened him and emptied his bank account.
The complainant told police that he had been receiving messages from a woman through an online application for the past three days. After she invited him to meet her, he went to a house in Mount Kailash Society, Zirakpur, on Saturday where she introduced herself as Gagandeep Kaur.
According to the complaint, the two were sitting inside the house when a man and another woman entered the room and began confronting the woman. The man identified himself as Gagandeep's husband,Lakhwinder Singh, while the woman identified herself as Gagandeep's mother, Paramjit Kaur.
They accused the complainant of ruining their family and threatened him.
The complainant alleged that another man soon joined them and more women were called to the house. The group allegedly intimidated him into handing over his ATM cards, PIN numbers, wallet and iPhone 15 before locking him inside a room.
While he remained confined, the accused allegedly used his ATM cards to withdraw Rs.2 lakh from his bank account. After confirming the withdrawal over the phone, they brought him out of the room and warned him against approaching the police.
Before letting him leave, the accused allegedly took away his wallet containing his Aadhaar card, PAN card and Rs.1,500 in cash. They also kept his car keys and drove away with his vehicle bearing registration number CH01CR1367, the complaint stated.
Police have booked Gagandeep Kaur, Lakhwinder Singh, Paramjit Kaur and their unidentified accomplices under Sections 308(5), 351(3) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for extortion, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy....
