Mohali, Aug. 21 -- With the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha calling for a Punjab-wide bandh on Friday, Mohali police are preparing to deploy over 2,000 personnel to maintain law and order and regulate traffic.
Security arrangements will include heavy deployment of police at the Mohali-Chandigarh and Mohali-Panchkula borders during the bandh period from 7 am to 2 pm.
In Chandigarh, however, police said there would be no special deployment. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur said around 600-700 personnel would remain on routine alert, as during any situation requiring heightened vigilance.
"There is no notice regarding any movement of protesters towards Chandigarh," she said.
Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans said police would set up more than 20 nakas across the district to monitor movement and ensure smooth traffic during the bandh.
He appealed to residents to remain patient and cooperate with the police during the restrictions.
"We have made adequate arrangements. I appeal to citizens to cooperate with the police so that the bandh passes peacefully and traffic movement remains smooth," Hans said....
