Patiala, Aug. 22 -- Health minister Dr Balbir Singh's security personnel on Friday nabbed an alleged drug peddler in Kasiana village after he received a complaint from the villagers about rampant drug trafficking in the area. The minister's security personnel subsequently handed the accused over to the police. Dr Balbir also reached the spot and directed the police to take strict action against the accused in accordance with the law, reiterating that there would be no leniency for those involved in drug trafficking. The minister also appealed to residents to come forward and share information about drug trafficking and supply with the police and other authorities. "The state government is pursuing its 'War Against Drugs' campaign on a war footing. While drug peddlers will face strict action, people suffering from addiction are being provided treatment, counselling, rehabilitation and support to return to the mainstream. Active public participation is essential to making Punjab drug-free," he said....
