Chandigarh, May 26 -- The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to ensure continuous videography of all strongrooms containing the ballots boxes from inside as well as from outside to prevent allegations of manipulation of votes. After dealing with around two dozen election petitions from across Punjab on Monday, the court also appointed independent observers for Majitha in Amritsar, Fazilka and Faridkot. It directed the SEC to forward names to the deputy commissioners concerned on Monday itself to ensure their safety and also so that they work without any fear or pressure from any corner. The court observers will only observe the conduct of election, the counting of votes and give a report to the high court. They will not give any direction to any authority to perform the duty in a particular manner. The court also appointed two lawyers as observers for counting day in Muktsar. Additionally, it appointed four advocates as observers for municipal council polls in Kotkapura - two each for polling and counting days. Earlier, on May 21, the court had directed that CCTV cameras shall be installed not only inside the polling booths but also outside the polling booths.
